Woodgrain aluminum plank siding and soffit
Walk a new West Coast contemporary street and the warm wood on the soffits and entry walls is usually not wood. It is extruded aluminum plank with a sublimated woodgrain finish, sold under brands such as Longboard and AL13. It gives the clear cedar look that defines the style, on a material that never greys, checks or needs oil. We install it as soffit, as feature walls and as full cladding, usually alongside a standing seam roof and flat metal panels.

Strengths
What it does well
- The cedar look with zero finishing or re-oiling
- Consistent colour across the whole wall, no knots or checking
- Aluminum does not rust, so it suits the coast
- Concealed clips, clean reveals, matching trims
- Also the best-looking soffit material available
Trade-offs
What to weigh up
- The most expensive cladding on this list
- Dents and scratches cannot be sanded out like wood
- Best left to crews who install it often
- Long lead times on some colours
Detail
Where it earns its price
Architectural aluminum plank is the premium end of metal cladding, and a whole house in it costs well above Hardie. Most of our clients use it where it is seen and touched: the soffit along the front, the wall at the entry, the gable end facing the street, with flat metal panel or board and batten elsewhere. Used that way it transforms a house for a modest share of the siding budget.
Price
Priced after we measure
Openings, corners and wall height decide a siding price more than the panel does, so we measure the walls and count the windows before quoting.
