Choosing
A colour that still looks right in 20 years
Finish first
PVDF holds its colour and resists chalking longest, so we use it on houses and anything seen from the street. SMP costs less and suits shops, barns and ribbed panels.
Mid-tones age best
Slate and zinc greys, taupes and mid-browns hide chalk, fade and dirt. Very dark colours show chalk most, and strong reds, blues and greens fade the most.
Roof and walls from one batch
A colour can shift slightly from one production run to the next. When you order roof and walls together, we buy them in one run so they match.
Questions
Colour questions
How many colours can I choose from?
Close to a hundred. PVDF steel colours for standing seam roofs and walls, PVDF aluminum colours for homes near salt water, a wider range of SMP steel colours for ribbed and corrugated panels, woodgrain and stone prints, and textured finishes. The chart on this page shows every one we install.
Can I see a real sample before I choose?
Yes. We bring samples to the free measure, and you can ask for particular colours when you request it: tap a colour on this page and use the sample button. Screens shift colours, so the final choice should always be made from the metal itself, outside in daylight.
What is the difference between PVDF and SMP colours?
Both are baked-on paints. PVDF holds its colour and resists chalking longest, which is why we use it on houses and anything seen from the street. SMP costs less and suits shops, barns and ribbed panels, where a little fade over the years matters less. Our colour guide compares the warranties.
Will my roof and siding match?
They will when they come from the same production run. A colour can shift slightly from one run to the next, so when you order roof and walls together we buy them in one batch.
Which colours hide dirt and fading best?
Mid-tones: slate and zinc greys, taupes and mid-browns. Very dark colours show chalk most, especially in SMP, and strong reds, blues and greens fade the most over time. Light colours hide fade but show algae and needle stains on shaded slopes.
